Energy businesses need to understand both the property and the proposed work. Work Signals brings together planning research and supporting property evidence where available, helping solar installers, retrofit contractors, building services teams and energy consultants decide which sites deserve a closer look.
Search proposals for solar panels, photovoltaic arrays, energy storage, plant equipment, heat pumps and changes to commercial buildings. Broader searches for warehouse roofs, new residential development and refurbishment can identify schemes worth investigating, but they do not establish that an energy package is available to bid for.
Use EPC evidence with the right questions
An energy performance certificate can provide context about a building’s recorded performance at the time of assessment. Check the certificate date, property match and whether the evidence applies to the part of the site you are researching. A domestic certificate should not be treated as an assessment of an entire commercial development. Missing or older evidence needs verification.
A lower recorded rating may justify further research; it does not prove current technical suitability, owner interest, funding eligibility or demand for an installation. A survey and the relevant technical checks remain essential before recommending a system or preparing a quotation.
Different searches for solar, retrofit and larger schemes
- Solar: read roof plans, array layouts and the proposed use of the building. Check whether the application is for a new installation or an amendment.
- Retrofit: investigate refurbishment scope, envelope changes and the evidence available for the actual property.
- Building services: look for plant, ventilation and heating references in drawings and supporting statements.
- Larger energy projects: verify the developer, consent route and procurement documents directly. Local planning coverage is not a complete register of energy infrastructure.
Energy project research around Manchester
Organise your searches by council and practical travel area. Compare Manchester with Salford, Trafford, Stockport and the wider Greater Manchester boroughs. For cross-boundary work, use our Cheshire and Warrington guide.
Move from a signal to a qualified prospect
Follow source links, confirm site identity and current project stage, then record why the scheme fits your service. Use Energy prospects to explore the site’s energy research tools and our solar installation guide for a focused workflow. Not every installation requires a planning application, so the planning register cannot represent all energy work.

National coverage and supporting evidence
Explore UK council and regional research, then check the published collection for your area. Use property evidence guides to distinguish available source data from exact matches to a planning site.
