Who handles your information
This notice explains how Work Signals uses information when you visit work-signals.com, contact us or use an account. For privacy questions or to exercise your data rights, email phancock@teamhancock.co.uk.
Information we use and why
- Accounts and subscriptions: your name, email, account credentials, subscription status, saved searches, shortlists and alert preferences help us provide the service you request. We use this information to perform our contract with you or take steps you request before a contract.
- Enquiries and correspondence: information you send, including your contact details and message, is used to respond and provide support. Our basis is our legitimate interest in handling enquiries and operating the service, or taking steps towards a contract where applicable.
- Security: technical details such as IP addresses, request information and security logs help us prevent abuse and keep the service working. Our basis is our legitimate interest in protecting the service and its users.
- Payments: Stripe processes payments and payment card details. We keep subscription and transaction references to manage access, billing and applicable accounting obligations. We do not receive your full card number.
- Optional website analytics: if you accept analytics, Google Analytics receives information about your browser, device and visits, including pages viewed and cookie identifiers. We use this to understand site usage. This processing relies on your consent; advertising storage and ad personalisation are not enabled by this choice.
Property, planning and business information
The research service brings together records from public authorities, public registers and published business sources. These can contain addresses, planning references, company details and public business contact details. Sources and coverage are described on our data sources page. We use these records for property and business research in our legitimate interests, subject to source restrictions. Public availability does not remove an individual’s data protection rights. Contact us about an inaccurate record or to object to our use of information about you.
Who receives information
Service providers supporting hosting, email delivery, payments and site operation process information needed for those functions. This includes Amazon Web Services for hosting and email services, Stripe for payments and Google for analytics when you consent. Team account owners can see membership of their team. We may also disclose information where required by law. Payment and other external services have their own privacy notices; see Stripe’s privacy notice and Google’s privacy notice. Their services may involve processing outside the UK; contact us for information about the arrangements relevant to your data.
How long information is kept
Account and saved research information is retained to operate your account. The appropriate period for correspondence, billing and security information depends on the purpose: resolving your enquiry, maintaining the service, meeting accounting requirements or dealing with a dispute. Source research records are retained to provide the research service, taking account of source restrictions and correction or removal requests. Contact us for information about a particular record or to request deletion; some information may need to be retained to meet legal obligations. Cookie and browser-storage periods are described below.
Cookies and browser storage
Essential storage supports features you request, such as signing in and secure account forms. Optional analytics is off until you select Accept analytics. Reject optional cookies, closing the banner, or letting it close after 5 seconds on mobile or 10 seconds on larger screens does not enable analytics. A dismissal is not agreement to this notice or consent to other uses of personal data.
- Sign-in and account cookies: WordPress uses cookies such as wordpress_test_cookie, wordpress_logged_in_* and wordpress_sec_* to check cookie support and maintain authenticated sessions. Session duration depends on sign-in settings, including Remember Me. Administrative display preferences may also be stored when using the office.
- Secure forms: wsb_form protects account and billing form submissions and expires after one day.
- Your cookie choice: ws_privacy stores whether you accepted or rejected analytics, the notice version and the time of your choice for up to 180 days. It is not an advertising identifier.
- Dismissal: ws_privacy_dismissed_v1 in session storage remembers a closed banner for the current tab session. It does not record consent. Other session storage can support browser compatibility and payment-confirmation checks.
- Google Analytics: _ga and _ga_* distinguish visits when analytics is accepted. Google Analytics cookies can last up to two years, subject to browser limits. Rejecting analytics here stops further analytics loading and removes the site’s accessible Google analytics cookies; it does not erase data already received by Google.
Use Cookie settings in the footer at any time to change your choice or withdraw analytics consent. A saved choice applies to this browser; other browsers or devices have their own settings. You can also remove cookies in your browser, although blocking essential cookies may prevent sign-in or account functions. This notice remains available even after the banner closes.
Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances and the basis for processing, you can request access to your personal information, correction, erasure, restriction or a portable copy. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing.
You can object to processing based on legitimate interests, and you can object to direct marketing at any time. Email phancock@teamhancock.co.uk with your request. We may need enough information to verify your identity. You can also raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
Jobs posted by customers
You can post a job without creating an account. We collect your job description, work categories, budget, town or area, proposed dates, planning status and any planning council/reference, together with your name, work address, postcode, email, telephone number and preferred contact dates and times. You confirm that you are authorised to arrange the work and agree to the contact-sharing described on the form.
We send an email verification link and review the submission before it appears to subscribers. Subscriber pages show only the approved job description, work categories, budget, town/area, timing and customer-supplied planning status. Your name, exact address, postcode, contact details and planning reference are private. Please keep personal information out of the visible description.
When a subscriber expresses interest, we record their account, job and review/delivery status. Our administrator selects which interested subscribers may receive your private details, including the work address and planning reference, in an individual email. These details are supplied for discussing that job only, subject to your stated contact period and preferred times, not for unrelated marketing. Email verification confirms access to an email address; it does not prove a job or planning permission is genuine.
Keep the private management link in your verification email to withdraw the job. Withdrawal stops new interest and further releases; it cannot recall emails already sent. The listing stops accepting interest after your contact-until date. Abandoned unverified submissions are removed seven days after submission. Verified submissions and review/delivery records remain in our private job administration until removed; contact Work Signals using the contact details on this page if you need help with your information. We do not keep a separate copy of the verification or contact-release email body in the site’s sent-message history.
