Separate extensions from other conversion work

The member category Extensions and conversions brings related types of proposed work together. Add the keyword extension when you want to concentrate on extensions rather than loft or other conversion projects. Then read whether the proposal describes a single-storey addition, a larger enlargement or a mixed scheme.

Try separate searches for the words used in the work you take on. For example, use rear extension for a specific phrase, or the broader extension to avoid excluding descriptions worded differently. Multiple words are searched as entered, so one narrow phrase will not find every variation.

Check the complete project, not just the headline

  • Associated work: an extension proposal may also mention demolition, roof alterations, windows or an outbuilding. Check which elements are actually proposed.
  • Revisions: compare an amended submission with earlier references at the same address instead of counting both as separate jobs.
  • Timing: use the latest council documents to understand the application stage. The validation or decision date is not a scheduled start date.

Why a planning search cannot show every extension

Some extensions can fall within permitted development rights, subject to conditions and limits. Planning applications therefore do not represent the whole extension market. See the Planning Portal extension guidance for the planning context; check the specific proposal with the relevant authority.

Work Signals helps organise the collected records so you can assess fit and save useful opportunities. It does not confirm that an owner wants a quote, that an extension will proceed or that the work has not been awarded.

Start in your working area

Use the free search for a council or postcode district. The five previews show a mix of local work; members can focus on extension records, review full application details and save a search for optional daily alerts. Search totals relate to the selected area, not solely to extensions.

Pro is £50/month for one user, with full signal details, saved searches, private shortlists and optional daily alerts. Planning records are research starting points, not confirmed jobs or exclusive customer enquiries.
