Use different searches for windows and doors

For window work, members can start with Windows and roofing and try window or glazing. Read the description to separate glazing work from roof-only proposals in the same category.

For doors, run a keyword search for door without restricting the work category first. Door-only wording is not necessarily placed in the windows-and-roofing category. Search specific phrases such as sliding doors separately if they match your services, then widen the wording when results are sparse.

Review what is changing

  • Replacement or new opening? A replacement window, altered elevation and new glazed extension describe different jobs.
  • Whole project or one element? Windows and doors may be part of an extension rather than a standalone installation opportunity.
  • Specification: follow the source to the proposed elevations and any schedules. Do not infer sizes, materials or quantities from the work label.

Why the register is not the whole replacement market

Some repairs and replacements do not need a planning application, while other circumstances have additional requirements. The Planning Portal guidance on doors and windows explains the general context. Work Signals cannot show every installation through planning records alone.

A useful shortlist combines a relevant description with a location you serve and a checked application stage. It does not establish that an installer has yet to be appointed. Save the records that merit investigation rather than assuming the number of matching applications equals available contracts.
